A sombre mood has struck Maguguni village in Thika East after three women were found brutally murdered in their home.
The three granny, her daughter and a close relative are suspected to have been killed on Friday night by unknown attackers.
Two bodies were discovered inside their house while the third had been buried in a shallow grave a few meters from the house.
Kahoro Mbogo, a neighbor told journalists on Wednesday that the three had gone missing prompting a search by villagers.
He said that upon breaking into the deceased's homestead, they were met with swarms of flies at the house's door and windows.
"We broke into the house and found the lifeless bodies of the granny and her daughter lying in a pool of blood," he said.
The badly mutilated body of the third victim was found in a shallow grave in the farm.
She seemed to have been beheaded.
Police said two knives suspected to have been used to stab the three were found outside their house.
Villagers said that the family was a peaceful one after settling in the village three years ago."They have been buying milk from my farm.
"However, I've not seen them since Saturday and we suspect they were murdered a day earlier," Mbogo said.
They also disclosed that the family had disposed of a property in Ruiru raising suspicions that the attackers might have been after money.
Thika East Sub County Police Commander Andrew Sora confirmed the incident saying police are pursuing crucial leads to arrest suspects believed to have been behind the brutal murder.
He said they suspect the three were killed two or three days ago.
“We have begun our investigations and are optimistic that we will have the suspects arrested for prosecution. It’s very unfortunate,” said Sora.
The three bodies were transferred to Thika’s General Kago mortuary pending autopsy and other probes.
