Ruto makes new appointments to State bodies

The President made appointments to four state parastatals.

President William Ruto on  Friday made new appointments to several state bodies.

The President made appointments in four state parastatals.

In a gazette notice dated December 13, 2023, Ruto appointed Shallow Abdullahi Yahya to be the chairperson of the National Drought Management Authority.

The President said Abdullahi will assume his role effectively on December 15 for two years.

"In Exercise of the powers conferred by section 7 (3) of the State Corporations Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint—Shallow Abdullahi Yahya to be the Chairperson of the National Drought Management Authority, with effect from December 15, 2023, up to July 12, 2025," the notice read.

The President at the same time revoked the appointment of Raphael Mullei Nzomo.

Ruto also appointed Aggrey Lucas Kidiavai as the chairperson of the State Corporations Appeal Tribunal.

Kidiavai will serve in the position for five years with effect from December 15, 2023.

The President has also appointed Michael Kamau Kamiru the chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Nairobi International Financial Centre Authority.

Kamiru will serve for three years with effect from December 15, 2023.

In the same Gazette Notice, Ruto named Hadi Sheikh Abdullahi, Richard Boro Ndun’gu, Lydia Cherono Rono and Amolo Ngweno to be members of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Revenue Authority.

They will serve from December 15, 2023, to January 12, 2026.

While making the appointment, the President revoked the appointments of Wilkister M. Simiyu, Fancy C. Too, Michael Kamau Kamiru, Darshan Shah and Samir Ibrahim.

Cabinet secretaries also made appointments to State bodies falling within their ministries.

National Treasury and Economic Planning CS Njuguna Ndun'gu appointed Darshan Shah to be a member of the Board of Directors of the Nairobi International Financial Centre Authority effective December 15, 2023. He will serve for three years.

"In the Exercise of powers conferred by section 8 (1) (e) of the Nairobi International Financial Centre Act, the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning appoint Darshan Shah to be a member of the Board of Directors of the Nairobi InternationalFinancial Centre Authority, for three (3) years, with effect from the 15th December 2023," the notice read.

Energy and Petroleum CS Davis Chirchir appointed Magerer Lang'at, Joseph Ngugi Njenga and Amina Bille to be members of the National Oil Corporation of Kenya Board for three years.

Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs CS Salim Mvurya has appointed Patrick Lumumba Ligami to the Artisanal Mining Committee of Kakamega County.

"It is notified for the general information of the public that under section 94 (2) (a) of the Mining Act, 2016, and further to Gazette Notice No. 15502 of 2023 the following member has been appointed to the Artisanal Mining Committee of Kakamega County–Under paragraph (a)—Patrick Lumumba Ligami," the notice read.
