Former Bumula MP Bifwoli Wakoli was among the graduands at Kibabii University who graduated with PhD in religion.
Wakoli served Bumula Constituency for two terms.
In 2022 general elections, Wakoli vied for the Bumula constituency parliamentary seat but was defeated by Jack Wamboka.
Speaking at the university premises on Friday, the vocal leader told the Star that his graduation is a new dawn as he has attained self- actualisation.
“I’m very glad today because I have attained my self-actualisation in life, it has not been an easy journey, it requires determination and resilience,” Wakoli said.
The former Member of Parliament encouraged youths to embrace education, saying that it is the key to success and good life.
“The studies I have done at Kibabii have made me vast with the African religion. I’m now able to write and demystify the African religion,” he said.
He, however, said that after losing in politics he decided to fully go back to school with a goal of actualising his dream.
Speaking at the graduation event, Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka committed 70 acres of land in Sang'alo towards Kibabii University's infrastructural development and research.
The county boss affirmed that was in fulfilment of a pledge to the institution for future expansion to accommodate the ballooning numbers of students.
"Kibabii University and the county government are conjoined. We commit to continue our invaluable support to the university for tremendous growth,” he said.
Lusaka reiterated his unwavering resolve in ensuring the varsity enjoys the long standing partnership with the county government through infrastructural facelift and academic boost.
"Education is the key equaliser to compete globally. My administration will continue rendering its full support to the needy and vulnerable students through the county scholarship programme,” he said.
"Through our ambitious street lighting project, Kibabii University and its environs have access to proper lighting that has consequently addressed insecurities in the region.”
He pinpointed other crucial projects that will directly impact the university, among them the just concluded KOICA phase two water project and the health facilities that will be equipped and upgraded.
"We have rolled out projects that will completely transform the livelihoods within and around Kibabii University. Plans are underway to equip and upgrade health facilities and dispensaries in this area to ensure residents and students get access to proper medical services,” he said.
Over 1,200 students culminated their academic journeys, receiving their awards at the Kibabii University grounds.
