Nominated MP Joseph Iraya Wainaina has celebrated after being awarded a honorary doctorate degree for his role in peace and community leadership.
The UDA MP was awarded the degree by US-based Northwestern Christian University.
Wainana was conferred with the degree during a graduation ceremony held at the Eldoret National Polytechnic on Saturday, December 16.
In its citation, the University noted that despite Wainana being directly affected thrice by previous post-election violence in Uasin Gishu, he emerged as an outstanding peace maker between communities in the region.
"I thank God for everything and I'm elated because of the recognition by the University," Wainaina said.
He said he was humbled by the award and would use it to further champion peace and unity among Kenyans.
The university also recognised Wainaina's rise from a humble background including being a taxi driver to a renowned entrepreneur in the country.
"I'm an epitome of resilience because through hard work and focus, God has brought me this far having gone through so many challenges," the MP said.
Wainaina is a close ally of President William Ruto and played a crucial role in the formation and campaign for UDA.
