A 110-year-old man in Uganda has been arrested for allegedly killing his 109-year-old wife after she denied him conjugal rights.

Uganda's the Monitor reports that the suspect allegedly stabbed his wife to death using a billhook in Kahunga, Western Uganda.

Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson Samson Kasasira confirmed the incident saying the deceased turned down her husband's request to join him in bed on December 14.

The following morning, the suspect raised alarm saying he could not die alone.

According to the Monitor, her granddaughter rushed to check if something was wrong.

She found the suspect holding a hornbill and ordered her to go out.

"It's then that the suspect immediately started stabbing the deceased multiple times which forced the other great-grandchild to run out and seek help from neighbours," Kasasira said.

Upon the arrival of neighbours, the wife of the suspect was already dead.

Police also found the suspect unconscious locked in a room with a bottle of a chemical.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the couple was married and staying in the same house but sleeping in separate rooms.

Police have since launched an investigation into the incident.
