President William Ruto has mourned the death of Kuwaiti leader Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad Al-Jaber AL-Sabah's death.
The President eulogised him saying he has left a legacy of steady leadership.
"It is with a deep sense of sorrow that I have learnt of the untimely death of His Highness Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber AL-Sabah, the Emir of the State of Kuwait," the President said.
"The late Emir leaves a legacy of steady leadership and consensus building and will be fondly remembered for his modesty and sense of duty. On behalf of the Government and people of Kenya, I extend sincere condolences to the people of Kuwait."
The President said Kuwait is assured of Kenya's great sympathies and goodwill.
Kuwaiti leader Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmed died on Saturday aged 86.
The sheikh had led the oil-rich nation for the last three years after taking over from his half-brother, Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Sabah.
The crown prince, 83-year-old Sheikh Mishal al-Ahmad al-Sabah, has been named his successor.
Kuwait announced 40 days of mourning and government offices to close for three days.
Sheikh Nawaf was named crown prince in 2006 and took over as emir in 2020.
Born in 1937, he was the fifth son of Kuwait's former ruler Sheikh Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah.
He was defence minister when Iraq invaded and occupied Kuwait in 1990, sparking the beginning of the Gulf War, and later went onto serve as interior minister.
