A section of former Kiambu MPs and opinion leaders on Tuesday told President William Ruto to lower the cost of living or they go to the streets.
The leaders had met at Kiambu High School to discuss the way forward for the county and forge unity pact to keep the national government in check over the unfulfilled promises and high cost of living.
The meeting comes after former President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM chief Raila Odinga met a section of Kiambu leaders last week in Karen.
"We held a meeting at Raila's Karen home where former President Kenyatta was in attendance. We discussed that it is important to have unity of purpose as people are disgruntled with the current leadership," former Kiambu MP Jude Njomo said.
Former Limuru MP Peter Mwathi said they made four declarations, which included that if the government will not lower the cost of living, they will mobilise people not to pay taxes.
He said they also declared that all projects belonging to Mt Kenya region that were allegedly diverted to other areas be brought back and implemented in Mt Kenya.
Mwathi said they also want the housing levy dropped.
He said they will go to the streets to demonstrate if their demands are not met.
"The hustler government which had promised to liberate the people has failed to do so. The government has continued to oppress the common mwananchi and we will liberate ourselves by removing them from power," the ex-MP said.
The leaders said those elected from Mt Kenya have absconded their roles of representing the electorate and gone to bed with the Executive.
The leaders said the role of Uhuru in the unity of Mt Kenya region is paramount since he is the kingpin and the Jubilee party leader, and his opinion and advise on the way forward will liberate the people.
Pauline Njoroge, a director at Jubilee party, said the liberation will start from the grassroots where they are restructuring the party to be owned by the people.
"Mt Kenya region party is Jubilee and right now we are focused in reaching out to the people and talk in one voice regarding leadership. We will also restructure the party from the grassroots for it to gain popularity as party is the only thing that people can use to speak in one voice," she said.
The leaders have agreed to reach out to those who have lost confidence in the government and unite them to lay ground on their future.
