Odungi Randa has been coronated as the Luo Council of Elders Chairman.

This was done in a colourful ceremony at the Ofafa Memorial Hall in Kisumu.

He becomes the 9th Ker of the Luo Council of Elders.

Leaders present describe him as a straightforward person who will unity the community.

He was elected by elders at Tom Mboya University through a concensus by elders from Homa Bay, Migori, Kisumu and Siaya counties.

The elders said they were guided by traditional spirits before they settled on Randa.

During the event, various elders from across the region and the neighbouring country were allowed to address the gathering on the various cultures and traditions which should not be forgotten and advise the people on how to carry themselves as a community.

After the speeches, Jotham Ajiki, The Luo Council of Elders Organizing Secretary took over the program and welcomed Odungi to the podium for the coronation process.

He recited and chanted verses and songs in Luo praising and welcoming the new Luo Ker Odungi.

At the podium, Odungi was handed a Spear, a Traditional stool, Traditional bag made of lamb skin, fly whisk, Bible among other traditional antiques.

Leaders led by ODM leader Raila Odinga said this was a happy and historic event for the Luo Nation.

He said Odungi was fit to lead the people and was a person who could not betray the community, explaining how despite torture and the things he went through, he never betrayed his Father Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.

Raila added that Odungi deserved the seat saying he has worked diligently and his loyalty is unquestionable.

He assured Odungi of his support saying he should work without any fear.

Raila who witnssed the event was accompanied by All the Govenors from Nyanza Region led by Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o, Homabay's Gladys Wanga, Siaya's James Orengo, Migori's Ochillo Ayako.

They were accompanied by their deputies apart from Siaya.

A section of Senators with Mps amongst other local leaders and ODM party officials from across the region were also in attendance.

The governors also assured the chairman of their support in all his endeavors as the community cultural leader.

Governor Wanga maintained that they have one cultural leader Luos and the other faction from Homabay claiming otherwise are not known to them.

"We here there is a group from Homa Bay claiming the seat, we don't know them, we will stand by Raila's decision of Ker and Otondi it is," She said.

Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga noted that some of the Luo cultures were fading away with the young people not embracing them hence, this was an opportunity to ensure such cultures are restored.

"We believe and trust in you. We have known you for long and we know that you will guide our people well," Oburu told the Ker.
