Michael Wambua Makosi, a 63-year-old man on Thursday died by suicide in Mwala, Machakos County.
Makosi is a father of three and he reportedly ended his life at Kithuiyani village.
Mwala sub-county police commander Nancy Jerebon said the incident was reported to Mbiuni police station by a village manager.
"It was reported by a village manager that a member of his village had committed suicide by hanging himself with a sisal rope on a mango tree. Officers from Mbiuni police station visited the scene," Jerebon said.
The police boss said a container of poison was recovered from the scene of the incident.
"The body had no visible marks except neck ligature marks. It was moved to Machakos Level 5 hospital mortuary pending an autopsy," Jerebon said.
Jerebon said an inquest file had been opened on the incident and detectives have launched a probe into the incident.
In another incident in the neighboring Matungulu sub-county, a 36-year-old man reportedly also died by suicide on Tuesday.
Chris Musyoka's body was found dangling from a tree at Misuuini village within Tala Township on the fateful day.
Matungulu subcounty police commander Peter Omondi said the deceased's body was discovered hanging on an acacia tree having committed suicide on December 19.
The body was moved to Patjud mortuary pending an autopsy.
Omondi said they had launched investigations into the incident.
