Man arrested as police recover donkey carcasses in Makueni

The arrest came hours after three other suspects were nabbed slaughtering stolen donkeys in Embu.

A man has been arrested in an operation that led to the recovery of a donkey and carcasses in Emali, Makueni County.

The suspect, 55, was nabbed during a night swoop at Kiumone village in Ithumba location on Friday night.

Eastern regional police commander Joseph Ole Napeyian said the incident was reported to Emali police station as the recovery of suspected stolen donkey carcasses.

“It was yesterday reported by members of the public that at Kiumone village Mithumoni sub-location in Ithumba location, there were men found slaughtering donkeys in the bush. Police from Emali Police Station led by Stapol Emali rushed to the scene and found the people who upon seeing them vanished into the bushes,” Napeyian told the Star by phone on Saturday morning.

Napeyian said the officers recovered nine donkey carcasses during the operation.

“They managed to arrest one suspect aged 55yrs who is believed to be running the business of slaughtering donkeys and selling their meat to unsuspecting customers,” Napeyian said.

He said a motorcycle was also recovered from the scene.

The scene was processed and the suspect was locked up at Emali police station awaiting to be arraigned in court.

The police boss said they would press various relevant offences on the suspect.

He said they had launched investigations into the incident.

The arrest came hours after three other suspects were arrested after they were busted slaughtering suspected stolen donkeys at a homestead in Embu County early Friday morning.
