Politician Maina Njenga has been the talk of social media for the better part of Sunday.

The politician is currently trending on X (formerly Twitter) at number one after police launched an operation in Nyeri Town following the cancelation of his 'mega rally.

Several X users questioned why the meeting by Njenga was cancelled as they shared pictures of heavy security in Nyeri.

"Why was Maina Njenga's event banned?" one user asked.

"I see no need to ban the Maina Njenga rally," another one said.

"Yaani Maina njenga hawezi ita youths wakule Christmas in peace."

Efforts to reach Njenga for a comment were futile

In October, while speaking to the Star, Njenga announced there would be a major event to unveil the new Mt. Kenya Kingpin on December 31, 2023.

Njenga disclosed that the event will be a mega one for the Mt Kenya region and will herald a new beginning.

According to Njenga, the event will be held in Nyeri County and will be graced by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

"We are going to invite everybody; regardless of their political affiliation, the event will be a major one for our region, and it is our time to stand together," he said.

Njenga, however, did not disclose who Uhuru would hand over.

"We have heard Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua talk about the unity of Mt Kenya. We saw a section of people converging in hotels; we want to meet people in public, in broad daylight, and we want to see everyone represented," he said.

"We want everybody to come, as long as they are from the mountain."
