Some 1,044,922 Inua Jamii beneficiaries will be smiling all their way to the banks beginning today following the release of the Sh2.08 billion payment from the government.
The money, according to Labor and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Florence Bore, was credited into the accounts of the beneficiaries on December 29, 2023.
Bore has, however, stated that the beneficiaries need not to go the banks as has been the norm but instead receive the money through their MPesa.
“Following the Presidential directive, Inua Jamii beneficiaries will be receiving their stipends through the MPesa platform,” she said.
Older Persons Cash Transfer (OP-CT) beneficiaries will continue to receive their funds through their bank accounts as usual, Bore stated.
Each of the beneficiaries receives Sh2,000 being payment for December.
Inua Jamii cash transfer program is a flagship social protection scheme targeting older persons aged 70 years and above.
It aims to support the most vulnerable members of the community by providing them with a stipend to cushion them from poverty, hunger and improve their lives.
In a statement Tuesday, the CS further stated that another Sh5,930,000 for Nutrition Improvement through Cash and Health Education (NICHE), which is a complimentary programme has also been disbursed.
She at the same time stated that Orphans and Vulnerable Children beneficiaries Cash Transfer (OVC-CT) and persons with severe Disabilities Cash Transfer (PwSD-CT) caregivers are required to enroll for Mpesa payments by dialing *222# using their registered Mpesa phone numbers.
The first phase of Mpesa payments, she noted, commences for OVC-CT and PwSD-CT.
