MP Abdi commits to nurture football talent through tournament

Ijara MP Abdi Ali has said that he is committed to nurturing sporting talents within his constituency.

Speaking on Tuesday after the finals of the inaugural Sheikhow Super Cup tournament, Abdi insisted that he takes pride in seeing talented constituents grow.

According to the legislator, what he had witnessed at the finals was young men displaying spectacular talents.

“I witnessed a thrilling spectacle of young men showcasing their spectacular football talent. As I extend heartfelt congratulations to the winners, I take pride in the commitment of my office to champion and nurture sporting talent,” Abdi said.

He spoke in Masalani, at the Baraza Park football pitch where the finals of the tournament that has been running for about a month involving teams from across Ijara Constituency was played.

Abdi who is the tournament's patron affirmed that the Sheikhow Super Cup appreciates the passion and competitive spirit displayed by all of the teams involved.

The tournament is divided into two categories – senior and junior categories. Winners from each category took home Sh100,000 cash prize.

Young Boyz FC secured the Sheikhow Super Cup senior’s title with a thrilling 1-0 victory against Masalani FC.

In the junior division, Sarman FC triumphed over Bula Duale FC on penalty shootouts after a barren draw 0-0 draw.

“The cash prize not only adds to the glory of their victories but also recognizes the dedication and skill displayed by these exceptional teams in the pursuit of football excellence,” the MP said.

Sports is one of the ways leaders get to interact with young people in constituencies, capitalizing on and growing talents as well as keeping young people away from bad influences that could lead to vices like drug abuse.

It is also a way to offer mentorship to young people in communities.
