Kanu Secretary for Political Affairs Fred Okang'o now says that the Azimio coalition is not working towards forming a new political formation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He was reacting to a report by the Daily Nation, saying that Raila is working towards forming a new coalition ahead of 2027.

In the report, National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi reveals the former Prime Minister's plans ahead of the next general election.

Speaking on Thursday, Okang'o said what the Opposition coalition is currently doing is strengthening itself ahead of the next polls.

He said that this is being done by the coalition's parties, which he referred to as pillars of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance.

"We are strengthening the formation that is led by Raila Odinga, Martha Karua and Kalonzo Musyoka. Strengthening it means using its pillars which are constituent parties; Kanu, ODM, Wiper, Narc Kenya and many more. Many more are going to join, we are not forming a new coalition for 2027," Okang'o said on Citizen TV.

He went on to say that as a political party, there is always a need to rebrand and expand, and that is what the coalition's leaders are currently doing.

He also denied any divisions within Azimio after he was asked about the Kamwene faction by Azimio leaders from the Mt Kenya region.

"Azimio la Umoja is a Coalition party and there is always a need to rebrand it, expand and ensure that it lives up to its objectives and principles. That is what our leader Raila Odinga is doing. And that's why you are seeing majority of Azimio parties are now rejuvenating."

The talks that Raila is working towards forming a new coalition comes barely three days after Raila met with former Presidential aspirant and businessman Jimi Wanjigi at a city restaurant where they held talks.

Details of their discussion, however, remain scanty.

Wanjigi after the 2022 elections has become a great critic of President William Ruto's administration, especially on his economic policies.
