Dr King’ori's Wicked Edition exits NTV after 7-year run

He said the show is expanding to new horizons within East Africa and beyond.

Satire and talk show The Wicked Edition aired its last episode on Friday after a seven-year run on NTV, host Dr King’ori announced.

In a statement, Dr King’ori thanked viewers whose unwavering support he said enabled the show to clock over 300 episodes and over 70 million views on YouTube, making it the longest-running satire show on Kenyan television.

“Since its inception, The Wicked Edition has grown to be the satire show par excellence in Kenya. Your patronage propelled us to great heights earning us recognition at the prestigious Kalasaha Awards and a nomination as the best performing TV comedy and the best TV comedy in Kenya for the upcoming 2024 edition,” Dr King’ori said.

He extended gratitude to guests that featured on the show, creatives and members of his crew who he described as the cornerstone of the show that served doses of humour to households.

In a past interview in 2017, Dr King’ori said the first guest on the show was former Police Spokesman Charles Owino who he said then “we still think he was our breakthrough”.

“Your dedication shone through each episode of The Wicked Edition that we have shared with the world. Together we celebrated the resilience and humour of our society, created memories and sparked meaningful conversations,” he said.

In a farewell statement on Friday, Dr King’ori said the show may have come to an end on NTV but it is turning on a new leaf and expanding to a new environment where it will endeavour to continue delivering content to audiences across the East African region.

He said the show will, however, stay true to the Kenyan culture even as it expands to new horizons whilst bringing people together through laughter.

“And as we chart new courses and explore fresh narratives, we invite you to join us through the plot twists. Thank you for being a part of our story. Here’s to turning a new page together with anticipation for the countless stories yet to be told,” Dr King’ori said.  

The talented comic ventured into professional comedy in 2010 and worked as a scriptwriter for various programmes including Offside Show and Churchill Show and was the character 'Kinyanjui' on The Trend.

Before then, he did stand-up shows and club shows.
