Azimio spokesperson Makau Mutua has defended Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka over his recent remarks on the Kamwene faction within the Azimio coalition.
Speaking on Friday, Mutua said the people attacking Kalonzo over the 'tribal outfit' have no power to influence.
He went on to say that Kenya can only be liberated by working together as a unit.
"Those attacking Kalonzo Musyoka for criticizing their tribal outfit are spent forces. Kenya’s salvation doesn’t lie in the “tribe” but in forging a common national zeitgeist," Mutua said on X.
Kamwene is a group that brings together leaders from the Mount Kenya region who support the Opposition coalition, Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance.
Makau Mutua has also been critical of the Kamwene outfit, terming it an ethnic entity.
In an interview with KTN News, Kalonzo said Kamwene is an idea that is dead on arrival.
He said that the group was a terrible political philosophy for anyone to use.
He advised the group led by Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua to drop the idea and work together as Azimio.
"I don't want to pass judgement on that issue but have you heard of things like dead on arrival? This thing means individualism. It's a terrible political philosophy. I would advise my friends to leave it and we stick together in Azimio," Kalonzo said.
His remarks come even as the Kamwene group insists they are strongly rooted in Azimio.
Karua later questioned what was it about Kamwene that has him scared.
She noted that Kalonzo has been dragging the outfit's name in most conversations he has.
"What about Kamwene scares my brother Kalonzo Musyoka that he must drag it in every conversation he has?" Karua posed on X.
Kioni also said that Kalonzo was afraid of the unity of the Mt Kenya people, which is why he was calling for the disbandment of the group.
He insisted that their plans will continue as Kamwene and that many people are coming on board.
