Two people linked to the killing of a rhino at Tsavo National Park have been charged at a Kahawa Law court.
The two; Abdi Noor Hussein and Dominic Mwashao were charged before Principal Magistrate Gideon Kiage. They denied the charges.
The court heard that they committed the offence between December 10 and 17, 2023 using an unknown riffle with three pieces of ammunition of 7.62 x 39mm calibre.
The court heard that they allegedly killed a black rhino at Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary Tsave West National Park within Taita Taveta County without a permit.
They were also charged with the second count of dealing in wildlife trophies contrary to the Wildlife Conservation Act.
The court heard that they committed the second count on January 2 where they were allegedly found dealing in endangered species namely two pieces of Rhino horns weighing 3.3kg with a street value of Sh3, 960,000 without permit.
They denied the said charges too.
They were however not released on bond after the prosecution told the court that they were a flight risk.
The magistrate directed that they be detained until January 26 for a probation report to be filed in court to pave the way for the bond verdict.
