Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has told off his Nandi counterpart Samson Cheragei over his remarks that they will ensure a pro-government Law Society of Kenya leadership is elected into office.

Speaking in Busia, on Monday, Sifuna insisted that no one will interfere with the LSK elections.

He said that all institutions that champion democracy must be left to be independent.

"Sasa huyo Cheragei alikuwa anasema wataharibu uchaguzi wa LSK waweke vibaraka wao pale ndani. Mimi nataka kumwambia pia mimi ni mwanasheria na mwanachama wa LSK. Hamtaingilia uchaguzi wa LSK na tunataka mashirika yote ambayo yanapigania demokrasia yawachwe yawe huru," Sifuna said.

This loosely translates to, "Cherargei said they will interfere with the LSK election and have their puppets elected. I want to tell him that I am also a lawyer and a member of LSK. You will not interfere with LSK elections. We also want all institutions that champion democracy to be left independent."

On Sunday, Cherargei said he will push for a radical surgery at the helm of the Law Society of Kenya in the next polls.

The vocal senator said President William Ruto's allies will ensure that the next leadership of LSK will support the government's agenda.

"The current law society of Kenya is made up of people who are working with those opposed to the government and that is why in the coming elections we have people who support the government's agenda," Cherargei said.

Speaking during a church service in Iten, Cherargei said the Kenya Kwanza agenda was being frustrated by people who have connections within LSK.

''I am a member of the LSK and when we have elections soon we will install people who will support your (Ruto's) agenda," he said.

The MP said the protests that were held last week by the LSK enjoyed the support of opposition figures who are opposed to the Kenya Kwanza agenda.

Members of LSK demonstrated across the country following remarks made by President William Ruto on the Judiciary.
