The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has said it is conducting more investigations in the murder of blogger and political activist Daniel Muthiani alias Snipper and more arrests will follow.

Snipper went missing on the night of December 2, 2023, and his body was found on December 16 in Tharaka Nithi.

The Director of Public Prosecution has already preferred murder charges against two key suspects.

"Further investigations are ongoing with more arrests expected as the Directorate strives to bring to book any more culprits that may have been involved in the murder," the DCI said in a statement on Saturday.

The DCI said four suspects including a police officer and a local DJ are also in custody waiting arraignment.

He said their involvement in the murder was forensically proven from the point of abduction of Snipper in Meru to Mutonga River where his body was recovered.

The key suspect, Vincent Muriithi alias Supuu, is at the core of the probe, right from luring the blogger to his death trap to the recovery of the body in Chiakariga, Tharaka Nithi County.

The DPP on Thursday said there is sufficient evidence to sustain a murder charge against Supuu and Murangiri Kenneth Guantai alias Tali.

On Friday, Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza dared the DCI to make public findings of investigations into the murder.

Her remarks followed a search at her official residence in Milimani Estate, Meru town on January 6 as part of the investigations into the murder which has sucked in her brother.

The governor said making the police findings public would serve to clear her family from being linked to the murder.

“I allowed you to even search my bedroom, the question is, what did you find? You marked the entire compound as a crime scene but you haven’t said what you found,” she said.

Snipper's autopsy results indicated that he had been tortured before being strangled to death by his killers.

Government pathologist Johansen Oduor said he also had fractured ribs and showed injuries.
