Safaricom said Monday night its PayBill service had suffered a hitch that affected some transactions.

The service provider, however, said it had resolved the anomaly and the service was back on.

"We experienced service intermittence with PayBill payments that resulted in some transactions not being completed on M-Pesa," the Telco said in a statement.

"The technical issue has since been resolved and we continue to monitor the services closely. We apologise for any inconvenience that this disruption may have caused."

Almost a fortnight ago on January 9, M-Pesa suffered momentary downtime but resumed hours later.

"All M-Pesa services are now available. We apologise for any inconvenience caused, and thank you for your patience as we worked to restore services," the company said in a customer notice.

M-Pesa monthly usage crossed the 30 million customers in March 2022.

Safaricom said then that Kenya remains M-Pesa's most active market accounting for more than 30 million of the service’s 51 million customers across Kenya, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique, Lesotho, Ghana and Egypt.

The number of businesses accepting payments on its Lipa Na M-Pesa platform more than doubled from 173,000 in April 2020 to more than 387,000 in March 2022.
