Businessman and Safina Party leader Jimi Wanjigi has for the first time opened up on his relationship with Azimio leader Raila Odinga.
In an interview on Sunday, Wanjigi said that while most people think they only became friends in 2017 after his fallout with the Jubilee administration.
He said their friendship dates back to 1991, which was the first time they met.
Wanjigi said it was during the struggle for Multipartyism in Kenya.
"We have been friends for the longest time. Some people think we became friends in 2017 but I first met Raila in 1991, before he was detained by Moi for the Section 2(A) issue," he said.
The Safina party leader also noted that while they have also stood on different political sides during their friendship, they have always worked together closely.
"I've known Raila for a very long time and we've worked deeply together for many years even when we have been on different sides of the political divide."
The two who once worked together ahead of the 2017 presidential election but later parted ways in the run-up to the 2022 general elections have been cosying up to one another in the last few weeks.
Speaking on their most recent meeting, Wanjigi said they generally discussed the current state of the country.
He, however, remained cagey on other details of the meeting held at the Norfolk Hotel in Nairobi.
He insisted that the only way he could discuss the other things in the meeting is through a joint address with the former premier.
Wanjigi disclosed that the meeting held on January 9 was not their first time sitting together after the August 2022 elections.
He said that their first meeting was in February last year, where they reviewed how the whole election process was.
"We had a breakfast meeting soon after the elections. I think it was about February last year. Just to recap what had happened in the year 2022. It was a very good session. The important thing is that we are friends."
