Kisii Governor Simba Arati Tuesday asked security agencies to seize a Kisii legislator gagging the arrest of a suspect who defiled a 5-year-old minor.
On Tuesday, Arati during a function at Gusii Stadium which was attended by Deputy President spouse Dorcas Gachagua, said the male suspect was still roaming freely after the unnamed legislator stopped his arrest.
"If there is madness then this is one of them. How evil can one be as a leader to stoop this low that you want to protect a sex pest from instruments of justice?" posed Arati.
The suspect, he said, had defiled the minor at their home but the intervention of the legislator thwarted his arrest.
Arati told Pastor Gachagua of spiralling thuggery in the larger Kisii County owing to the existing political animosity among leaders.
"Already our people know the source of this political boil troubling our region which should be cured if we are to grow as a County," said the County boss.
The Governor was presiding over the distribution of medical kits to community health promoters.
Hundreds of kits were dished out to the workers.
On insecurity, Arati cited the incident where a charged mob raided Nyamarambe Level Four Hospital months ago and attacked hospital staff.
He accused an area MP of being the shadowy figure behind the deteriorating level of security in Kisii.
He said the MP is yet to be apprehended weeks after skirmishes erupted at the Governor's rally in the Nyakembene area in South Mugirango.
"He is the same person roaming in the office of the President and the Deputy President swaggering around how powerful he is. We demand action if Kisii is to be safe," the Governor said.
Arati who has had run-ins with the MP accused him of thwarting the efforts of the security agencies to do their work.
"As Second Lady of this country and Bishop we know you can pray for this vice and tell the Deputy President to address it, "he said.
Arati said it was time police officers serving in Kisii rose above partisan politics and confront vices affecting society.
Speaking during the function Pastor Gachagua urged leaders to tame their tongues to end constant conflicts.
Dorcas is in Kisii for a two-day visit. She asked for concerted efforts in addressing vices affecting the boy child.
She asked churches to begin feeding programs for street children as part of the effort to address challenges affecting the boy child.
