Nine suspects were Wednesday night arrested and detained at Wote Police Station in connection to scrap metal burglary at Wote Stadium, Makueni County.
The 350 million stalled project is a kilometre away from Wote town and is located at the dump site area.
Confirming the incident, Sub County Police Commander Winnie Siele said that they worked on a tip-off from the public and managed to arrest the nine right from the scene.
"It was at 23:00 hours when the public informed us about what was happening, we rushed to the scene and managed to arrest nine with several others fleeing in a motor vehicle to an unknown destination.
Siele said that those who escaped used a white X-trail vehicle.
The police recovered exhibits which included a lorry that was supposed to transport the stolen items.
The suspects are in police custody awaiting to appear before court on Friday.
In December 2023, a water purification machine from Kitise was also stolen and recovered in Kajiado, kilometres away from Makueni.
Metal theft is one of the fastest growing crimes in the country with residents blaming the booming illegal scrap metal business.
