The Directorate of Criminal Investigations is now investigating the theft of five computers that were stolen on Thursday night from the Makueni County Referral Hospital.

According to the Executive Committee member for health in Makueni County Paul Musila, the thieves broke into sub County record offices, the palliative care Unit and the City scan office.

"The thieves broke into three offices and managed to carry with them five computers," said Paul.

The five computers are said to be worth Sh750,000.

On Friday morning, some officers reported to the medical superintendent that the respective doors were broken into.

The particular offices don't operate on 24-hour like the casualty and the mother and child Hospital.

Musila says that they immediately reported the matter to the police and so far three officers have already recorded statements with the OCS.

He confirmed to the Star that the facility has a backup for their information and that operations are running as normal.

"Our officers have laptops that they are using as an alternative," added Musila.

The CCTV installed in the facility is also being checked.

The hospital administration says that as of now, it's hard to predict the reason behind the theft since not a particular department has been targeted.

He rubbished the claims that the theft might have been pioneered by leadership fights.

Commenting on the City scan, Musila agreed that they had some issues that had not been tackled after they broke down but affirmed engineers are already working on them.

Musila says there is a Company contracted for security purposes and that they will interrogate the necessary officers.

The health CEC has committed that as a department, they are ready to comply with the police to recover the lost items.
