Police probe death of Form 1 student in Makueni

Principal Geoffrey Muema said Emmanuel Kirimi complained of stomach upsets on that fateful day

Detectives in Makueni are investigating the death of a Form 1 student from Kilungu Boys High School that occurred on January 25. 

According to the father of the deceased Joshua Kaimenyi, he received a phone call from the principal who informed him to go to the school where he said he was informed of his son's death.

Principal Geoffrey Muema said Emmanuel Kirimi complained of stomach upsets on that fateful day and they administered drugs but when the pain persisted, they gave him water and he had diarrhoea and then collapsed.

Muema said they then took him to the nearby hospital. 

"Emmanuel Kirimi a Form One student got stomach upset at 10:30 am. He was rushed to the deputy principal's office and then to the hospital located 800 metres from the school," he said.

"He was accompanied by two teachers and two prefects where the doctor confirmed that he had died"

The principal said he had reported the incident and recorded a statement with the DCI.

However, Kaimenyi said he was not satisfied with the information from the school.

"I am so bitter. My son has never had any complications whatsoever," he said.

After consultation with the family, the body was transferred to Chiromo Mortuary awaiting postmortem.

According to the Medical Officer Kilungu Sub County Hospital Everlyn Kitungo, Kirimi was brought in on January 25, about mid-day and was confirmed dead on arrival.

"He was in the company of a teacher, no treatment took place in the facility. The details for the deceased can only be revealed through a postmortem." 

Lisa Mongera a relative of the deceased called for justice over Kirimi's death. 

Makueni Senator Daniel Maanzo also emphasized the safety of learners in school and called for a proper investigation into the matter.
