Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called on stakeholders to collaborate to mitigate drivers of inequalities and enhance gender and social inclusion.

This rallying call was made by Dr Idris Salim Dokota, the Principal Secretary of Cabinet Affairs, Office of the Deputy President, who spoke on behalf of the Deputy President.

This was during the launch of crucial reports on Gender Equality and Social Inclusion by the National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC).

Gachagua lauded NGEC on the launch of their reports that provide solutions that address Gender Inequalities in the TVET sector, strategies for the Inclusion of minority and marginalized groups in national development; and opportunities for accelerating gender mainstreaming in the public sector.

The four reports released by NGEC were developed in close collaboration with various stakeholders.

These reports offer comprehensive policy recommendations, some of which have already been implemented, signalling NGEC's dedication to fostering a more inclusive society.

They include: The 2023 Inequality Diagnostics: Mind The Gap-Towards A More Equal Kenya; A Scoping Review: A National Inclusive Development Framework for Marginalized Communities in Kenya; The Status of Gender Equality and Inclusion in the Public Sector, 2023 and Model Gender Mainstreaming Policy for the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Sector (With Elements of Inclusion), 2023

Dr. Esther Thaara Muoria, Principal Secretary TVET, affirmed her Ministry's commitment to “continually develop and support aggressive programmes to promote higher enrolment of female trainees in STEM courses, establish gender desks in all TVET institutions, train more Gender Champions, and provide gender-responsive office facilities and equipment."

Speaking at the launch, Finland’s Ambassador to Kenya H.E Pirrka Tapiola, noted that:

“Equality brings prosperity, stability, peace and inclusivity. In Kenya, escaping the middle-income trap will demand a strategic focus on equal opportunities and inclusive development.”

On his part, GIZ Kenya Country Director Mr Bodo Immink highlighted Germany’s role in supporting equal participation of all to promote access to jobs, education, health care, culture, and sports.

“We do this through targeted awareness raising, exchanges, mentorship programmes, policy development, dialogue and the equal involvement of women and men, girls and boys. Strengthening progressive policies that reduce inequality and policy incentives that encourage inclusive participation for all is a catalyst for sustainable economic growth in Kenya.”

Several institutions were honoured for their excellent performance in gender mainstreaming and social inclusion.

They included the State House, Ministries, Constitutional Commissions, Parastatals, Universities and TVET institutes among others.
