At least two poachers were on Sunday shot dead in a clash with Kenya Wildlife Service personnel in Wajir County.
Police said the incident happened in Shioli area where the said poachers had killed a female giraffe and were busy skinning it.
The KWS personnel said they were informed the poachers were at the scene when they rushed there at about 4 am.
This prompted a shootout that left two poachers dead.
Officials said a female giraffe carcass, an Assault rifle Smirnou rifle with five rounds of 7.62mm, a motorcycle and two swords were recovered at the scene.
The bodies were later moved to the mortuary pending identification and autopsy.
Poachers target wild animals in the expansive national parks in the region for meat and other products.
On May 3, 2023, two poachers were killed in the same area by KWS officials in a clash.
Officials said that more than 70 kilos of giraffe meat was recovered from them.
KWS rangers had received information some people were supplying suspected giraffe game meat at Barwago location using a saloon car.
Police said the rangers confronted the poachers at Kalkacha sublocation prompting a shootout.
The team also recovered three mobile phones and the vehicle the men were using.
Most of the meat ends up in butcheries where it is sold to unsuspecting residents. This exposes consumers to many dangers, officials say.
KWS officials said there's an ongoing campaign in the area to inform the locals to join in the war on poaching.
