Ruto witnesses signing of deal with Toyota Tsusho Corporation for renewable energy

The Government of Kenya has sealed a working partnership with Toyota Tsusho Corporation.

On Wednesday, President William Ruto witnessed the signing of a framework agreement between the corporation and the government.

Components of the agreement will promote a Green energy value chain.

This will include wind, solar and Geothermal projects targeting the Meru Wind power project, Menengai Geothermal and Isiolo solar power project.

The agreement will also promote hydrogen-electrified vehicles and enhance the car assembly industry.

The agreement was signed by Cabinet Secretary for Energy Davies Chirchir, Kipchumba Murkomen ( Roads and Transport), Rebecca Miano( Investment, Trade and Industry).

From the Japanese side, it was signed by Ichiro Kashitani, president and CEO of TTC.

Ruto left the country on Monday for a two-day official visit to the East Asian country.

His tour aims to deepen the diplomatic ties between the two countries.

Top on his agenda will be trade and economic partnerships as well as regional security among others.

"We are heading to Japan because we have a program valued at $1 billion (Sh160 billion) and Japan is helping us and we must plan properly," he said at an event in Kakamega.

During their stay in the country, the President and the First Lady will make a state call on Their Majesties, the Emperor and Empress of Japan who will host a court luncheon in their honor.

Japan Prime Minister Kishida Fumio will host a summit meeting with the President.

"The government of Japan sincerely welcomes the visit of the President and Mrs Ruto and hopes that this visit will further strengthen the friendly relations between Japan and the Republic of Kenya," a statement issued read.

During their stay in Japan, Ruto will visit Tokyo and Aichi.

Further development between both countries’ regional exchange is expected through the visit to Aichi.

This will be Ruto’s first visit to the country as the President.

He last visited in 2013 as the deputy president during the Fifth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD V).
