Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has unveiled a new fighter bull to fill the void left following the death of Inasio.
Inasio was speared to death a day after killing a farmhand-Kizito Moi.
Khalwale who took to his post to reveal the news underscored the deep connection between the Baluhyia people and their cultural traditions.
“The Baluhyia culture abhors a vacuum,” he said.
“The very large shoes of the departed fighter bull, Inasio, have now been stepped into by the young fighter bull, Lumumba,” he stated.
The senator did not, however, explain the choice of the name.
Lumumba, who the senator described as a young fighter bull, is now tasked with carrying on the legacy of its predecessor.
His introduction also serves as a cultural continuation and the importance of maintaining traditional practices and beliefs in the community.
Bullfighting is an esteemed culture in the community.
The fighting bulls are given names for identity purposes.
They are named after celebrated politicians, sportsmen, natural phenomena or a season.
During a bullfighting competition, the event is accompanied by traditional isukuti music and other festivities.
Hundreds of spectators gather and cheer on by blowing traditional horns.
Before the event, the bulls are prepared adequately, fed and prevented from mating heifers.
On the D-day, they are fed traditional beer, and mixtures of other ingredients and substances, to provoke them.
The owners also keep them under tight watch to avoid rivals from casting evil spells.
