The family of former TV presenter Jackie Maribe has expressed their gratitude after the court ruling.

On Friday, the High Court acquitted Maribe in the Monica Kimani murder case.

According to Justice Grace Nzioka, the charge brought against Maribe was not properly placed.

However, Justice Grace Nzioka found Joseph Irungu guilty of the murder of Monica Kimani.

Maribe expressed her gratitude to God saying the truth has set her free.

Speaking at the Milimani Law Court after the judgement, Maribe's father thanked everyone who stood by them during the difficult time when they had to be in and out of court.

"On behalf of the Maribe family, I want to express our thanks to the Almighty God, it has been a torturous journey. We have suffered emotionally and financially but we thank God it has come to this kind of an end," he said.

Maribe's father said that the family has never doubted the innocence of their daughter.

"We were never in  doubt about the outcome because we in the know about the facts of the case."

He added that God has been on their side and favoured them throughout the case.

Reiterating his words, Maribe's mother said that they had emerged victorious because they stood strong in prayers.

"Even when the fire appears like it is almost melting our emotions, we have been encouraging ourselves in the Lord."

Maribe is the second accused in the case that has been ongoing for over five years.

"It is my considered view that the charge brought against the second accused person was not the proper charge," Justice Nzioka said.

"Was there any offence committed when the second accused person stated the investigating officer at Lang'ata police station which turned out to be not true? I say no more.

The office of the Director of Public Prosecution knows their mandate.

"The result is that the prosecution did not adduce enough evidence for this court to find the second accused person guilty of the offence of murder of Monica Nyawira Kimani on the night of September 19, 2018."

Monica’s body was found at her Lamuria Gardens Apartment which is located on Kitale Lane off Denis Pritt Road in Kilimani.

Jowie and Jacque Maribe have been on trial since 2018, with the prosecution having called 35 witnesses.

The defence did not call any witnesses.
