An 18-year-old boy was on Thursday arraigned in a Kenol law court where he was charged with committing multiple traffic violations in the Mihang’o area along the Kenol- Sagana highway in Murang’a South.

The court heard that the accused, Alex Mbugua Kamau committed the offences on February 6, 2024.

The offences included driving a motorcycle registration number KMJA 868R of the ranger type without a license, insurance, a helmet, and a reflective jacket.

Despite having no previous criminal record, Kamau’s actions were deemed a threat to society, as he had allegedly recruited other young boys into similar illicit activities, some of which had led to accidents.

Cognizant of this, Senior Resident Magistrate Sheila Nyagah ordered the accused to pay a fine of Sh29,000 or serve a one-year jail sentence in default.

Kamau was fined Sh5000 or three months imprisonment for the first offence of riding a motorcycle without a license, Sh10,000 or three months imprisonment for the second offence of riding a motorcycle without insurance, Sh7,000 or 6 months imprisonment for the third offence of riding a motorcycle without a helmet while the fourth offence of riding a motorcycle without a reflector jacket had him handed a fine of Sh7,000 or three months imprisonment

He was granted the right to appeal within 14 days.
