Africans from South Africa, Kenya, Ghana and other nations took to X to celebrate the victory with Ivory Coast with some throwing jabs at the Super Eagles.

"A very short story...," one X user, Tiisetsoo, wrote as a caption to a photo of a fallen eagle.

"Let's gather here and laugh at Jollof brothers Nigeria. South Africa wishes to congratulate the Ivory Coast for humbling Nigerians, hence the silence," Simtho Biyela, a South African wrote.

Even before the final game, the seemed to have been factions of supporters from across Africa.

"Friends of Ivory Coast where are you? South Africa, can we go to Sunnyside to check on the Jollof brothers in Nigeria? it's so quiet it's unlike them," Simtho Biyela added.

Following a goal by William Troost-Ekong, it looked as though the Super Eagles would have raised the trophy once more at the end of the first half.
