Multimedia University students now want Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu to confirm their acting vice chancellor with immediate effect.

The VC Rosebella Maranga was appointed by President William Ruto in an acting position in January.

“We stand united in calling for the immediate confirmation of Prof Rosebella Maranga as the Vice Chancellor of this great institution,” Multimedia University Students Union president Hillary Ayoo said on Monday.

Ayoo said Prof Maranga embodies the qualities of a distinguished leader and manager, adding that her confirmation as the VC presents the institution an opportunity to share her expertise and vision.

He said Prof Maranga served as DVC Administration, Finance and Planning and has offered exemplary service to the university for 10 years.

“Prof Maranga has an excellent relationship with the entire Multimedia University community. Prof Rosebella Maranga is a distinguished female leader in the "who is who' in the world,” Ayoo said.

"She has led the university through great feats notably the ISO certification 2013, good financial management, strategic plan and accreditation of key courses in the university.”

Ayoo said the stability and progress of the university are contingent upon the presence of substantive administrators at the helm.

“Therefore, we urge the Cabinet Secretary of Education, management, delay in confirming these positions is detrimental to the effective functioning of our Institution and compromises our academic pursuits,” Ayoo said.

The MUKSA president said any opposing voices must be disregarded.

He said the students will not tolerate any obstruction to the progress and development of the university.

“As comrades, we stand firm in our demand for swift action. The future of the Multimedia University of Kenya depends on it,” Ayoo said.
