US officials are investigating an incident in which a senior police officer was found dead in a hotel room in Washington DC.
The body of Commissioner of Police Walter Nyamato Nyankieya was found in his hotel room on Tuesday morning.
He was among a team of officers sent to Washington for a seminar on security operations.
He was based at the Administration Police headquarters as the personal assistant to the Deputy Inspector General of Police Noor Gabow.
The cause of the death is not yet known.
His colleagues said he had failed to wake up and when they went to check on him, they found the body on the bed.
Gabow described him as a dedicated and hard-working officer.
He said American officials are handling the matter for now.
“He was attending a seminar in the US when he was found dead in his room. We will know more,” he said.
Gabow said the training cum seminar was routine and urged patience for the probe to be concluded.
His family said they want justice in the death. The body is likely to be flown back to Kenya after it is cleared by the investigators.
His colleagues mourned him saying he was a hardworking and humble officer.
