We need to understand that the African Union is a conglomeration of member states whose main agenda is development, infrastructure, the economic purview and, above all, political stability in the African continent.

When you look at the head of the African Union, especially the mandate of the AU Commission chairperson, we are looking at the person not as an individual but the persona whose main aim is to bring together the states particularly through their heads of state and missions and pushing the African agenda.

Africa is actually beleaguered in the world because of its little failings, so it needs a leader who is dynamic, able to interact with the heads of state because he or she understands the mandate of the heads of state, and I believe Raila Odinga is a perfect example.

Even if he has tried presidential elections many times and been denied, he understands the structure, the content and even the context in which states must operate.

He also understands the politics, the agglomeration of technology and he understands climate change or what we call environmental concerns.

In essence, he is the best candidate. No politics. He is the best candidate.

He has traversed the continent and the world. The challenges that are facing Africa are not less than the challenges facing East Asia, Western and Eastern Europe and even the Scandinavia.

In other words, Raila understands the challenges and the template of interpretation of world politics, geopolitics and, above all, the legal norms.

Raila stands head and shoulders above all potential challengers for the job.

If politics must be in play, then we should not underestimate his chances of being on the ballot for the 2027 race for State House.

The 2027 race is a slippery slope. But the role of the African Union chairman is on a higher pedestal for which he must be supported.
