A man who is alleged to have stolen animal products worth Sh67 million while working as a warehouse manager has been charged before a Nairobi court.

Hussein Ismail Godad appeared before Milimani chief magistrate Bernard Ochoi and denied stealing by servant.

He is accused that between unknown dates and January 17, 2024 at Madina Chemicals Limited Wherehouse, within Nairobi county, being the warehouse manager employed by the company, stole animal products valued at Sh67,513,761.

The products which belong to the company came into his possession by virtue of his employment, the court heard.

Through his lawyer, Hussein pleaded for lenient bond terms.

He also told the court that during his arrest, he was tortured and intimidated by the arresting officers who took him to Garissa and back.

However, lawyer Hassan Albhai for the complainant told the trial magistrate that allegations by the accused's lawyer that his client was arrested and tortured before being taken to Garissa and back were mere allegations that are meant to tarnish the image of the DCI officers.

"Your honour, the accused was not intimidated, actually what the officers were doing were part of the investigation. In fact, the accused person's lawyer was well informed of all this the process," lawyer Albahi said.

The magistrate released him on a cash bail of two million or a bond of 5 million with surety of similar amount.

The case will be mentioned on February 29, 2024.
