ICT Ministry kicks off DTPS Forum and Awards in Mombasa

The Digital Transformation and Public Sector (DTPS) Forum and Awards kicked off on Thursday in Mombasa.

The event, according to the Ministry of ICT is meant to propel Kenya towards a more digital-centered future.

Day one of the two-day event saw innovators, government officials and industry leaders share best practices and discuss the future of digital transformation in the public sector.

ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo used a robot to deliver his opening speech in which he stressed on the importance of digitisation of government services.

"Digital technology is important not only in driving innovation but also in creating jobs and growing the economy," Owalo said.

The CS urged Kenyans to embrace digital technology in the public sector, noting that it will go a long way in creating transparency in government services.

The Principal Secretary for ICT John Tanui the public sector to tackle issues such as data privacy and security security to maximise the benefits of digitisation.

The two-day event is expected to end Friday with a gala dinner and awards ceremony where the Ministry of ICT will award players in the public sector.

The award, according to Owalo, is meant to provide an incentive for other players in the public sector to use more innovative solutions in their service delivery.

According to PS Tanui, the awards will cut across different industries including healthcare, education, agriculture and citizen engagement.

The ministry, partnered with international companies like Amazon Web Services and Intel to organise the inaugural event.

Industry leaders from Intel, Amazon Web Services and Greydale Africa echoed the need for collaboration in the bid to accelerate digital transformation.

Susan Mbogo, General Manager of East Africa at Intel called for continuous innovation and collaboration.

Kellington Kituku, the Lead for the Public Sector at Amazon Web Services described the event as a 'pivotal moment' in transforming governance and driving positive change.

Tanui, in a previous address, noted that the DTPS Forum and Awards stands as a testament to Kenya's unwavering commitment to harnessing technology for service delivery.

"The DTPS Forum and Awards provide a unique platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration between the public and private sectors by sharing success stories and best practices, participants can inspire and catalyze further digital transformation initiatives," the PS said during the official launch of the the event.
