Ruto makes new appointments to Kenya Railways board

The appointments were made in a gazette notice released on Friday.

President William Ruto has appointed Philip Salau Mpaayei and Peter Gathenya Githinji as members of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Railways Corporation.

Their appointments take effect from February 23, 2024, up to October 5, 2024.

At the same time, Ruto has named Lewis Mutuiri Gitonga, to be a member of the Board.

His appointment is with effect from February 23, 2024, up to the 4th of June, 2025.

Alvin Habwe has also joined the board with effect from February 23, 2024, up to July 12, 2025.

The appointments were made in a gazette notice released on Friday, February 23, 2024.

Cabinet Secretaries also appointed various people in their different departments.

Lands, Public Works, Housing, and Urban Development CS Alice Wahome appointed Daniel Njue Kamunde to be a member of the Estate Agents Registration Board.

The CS said that Kamunde will serve for three years with effect from February 23, 2024.

Labour and Social Protection CS Florence Bore reappointed Mary Wambui to be the chairperson of the Trustees of Street Families Rehabilitation Trust Fund.

CS Bore said Wambui will serve as the chairperson of the Trustees of the Street Families Rehabilitation Trust Fund for three years with effect from February 23, 2024.

The National Treasury and Economic Planning CS Njuguna Ndung'u appointed Stanslaus Kimani, Jackson Awele Onyango, Jessica Njeri Mmbetsa and Hussein Were to be members of the Public Procurement Administrative Review Board.

The three will serve for three years effective February 23, 2024.

Tourism and Wildlife CS Alfred Mutua has appointed 14 members to the Advisory Committee on the Transfer of the Amboseli National Park.

They will advise on the framework for the transfer of function of the Amboseli National Park (ANP) to Kajiado County.  

The Advisory Committee will be led by Francis Maliti as the Chairperson.

Appointed members include Janet Naeku Meissy, Paul Ojwang, Bernard Mwangi Kahuthia, Helen Gichohi, Chris Foot, Peter Moll, Dickson Ritan, Richard Chepkwony, and George Osuri.

Others are Jackson Muthini, Christopher Oyier, Marion Muriithi, Rutto Jeremiah Kipketer, and Fatma Yunis.

The CS said they will hold meetings or consultations as it shall deem necessary in such places and at such times as the Committee shall consider necessary for the proper discharge of its mandate.

The Committee will also review official reports, policy, legislation or any other document related to the Committee mandate.

They will carry out assessments, studies, or research as may inform its mandate.

CS Mutua added that they will co-opt experts, in areas of need as may be necessary.

They will also hold consultations with stakeholders to solicit, receive, consider, and collate inputs.

The Committee will  create sub-committees for the efficient and expedited discharge of its mandate.

They will serve for six months.

The CS will constitute a Secretariat that will include a Head of Secretariat and other relevant technical experts.

He said the Secretariat will be domiciled at the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife offices.

It will be responsible for providing appropriate background briefing to the Transition Advisory Committee and preparing the reports of the Transition Advisory Committee disseminating any information deemed relevant.

The Secretariat will also liaise with the relevant government departments and any other institution or stakeholders to gather relevant information necessary for informing the Transition Advisory Committee.
