The Kisumu county government on Saturday received a donation of an ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy machine worth Sh7 million.

The machine donated by Cancer Care Africa (CAA) and AstraZeneca will be stationed at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH).

Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong'o while receiving the machine lauded the CCA and AZ for the donation which he said will help in the fight against prostate cancer.

He pointed out that prostate cancer is a silent threat, affecting millions of men across the world.

"Men are disproportionately diagnosed with advanced stages of the disease, leading to a heavier burden on both patients and our healthcare system," Nyong'o said.

The county boss, who was accompanied by spouse Dorothy, added that the delay stems from a lack of access to accurate diagnosis.

"The current practice often relies on finger-guided biopsies, a less precise method. But with the arrival of this ultrasonic marvel, a new era of early detection begins." Nyong'o said

He noted that with the new technology, they are taking a giant leap forward in the fight against prostate cancer, which he described as a turning point.

Nyong'o termed the newly unveiled machine, a new weapon in the fight against prostate cancer.

The hospital chief executive officer Dr Richard Lesiyampe thanked the CCA and AZ for the donation of the machine, which he said will help several patients from the region.

He assured that JOOTRH was committed to effective healthcare provision.

County health executive Dr Gregory Ganda and Comedian Erick Omondi were also present.
