After years of tension between Taita Taveta and Makueni counties regarding Mtito Andei Town, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has directed security chiefs in the area to quickly resolve the issue.
The CS on Monday directed county commissioners from both areas to have a joint meeting to address the matter.
The security chiefs are expected to propose a solution within two weeks.
"In two weeks, you must come up with a win-win and fair outcome so that we can resolve the problem of Mtito Andei between Makueni and Taita Taveta permanently," Kindiki added.
The CS said the aim is to achieve a fair and mutually beneficial resolution to permanently address the problem that has created a row as far collection of revenue in the town is concerned.
Kindiki spoke during the launch of Kambu Sub-County in Makueni.
He operationalized the newly gazetted Kambu Sub-County and installed Teresia Mburu as the first Deputy County Commissioner.
In December last year, Taita-Taveta Governor Andrew Mwadime confirmed that the Community Integrated Development Programme (CIDP) had been disrupted, but vowed to deploy revenue clerks in the town soon.
"We have a court order in place and we will soon deploy revenue officials to start collecting revenue at the disputed Mtito-Andei and Mackinnon Road townships," said Mwadime.
Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr recently said the boundary between his county and Taita-Taveta is at Man Eaters while Taita-Taveta County maintains it is at Mtito Andei River.
