A former officer of the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy (REREC) who was charged with forgery has been released on a Sh500,000 bond with one surety of a similar amount.
Eunice Ngima Gachugi was released after being charged with forgery of an academic certificate to secure employment with the state agency.
The former Supply Chain Management Officer also faced four other counts related to the aforementioned offence.
These include fraudulent acquisition of public property, uttering a false document, giving false information to a person employed in the public service and deceiving the principal.
The charge sheet read that the offence was allegedly committed between April 1, 2022, and July 15, 2022, within Nairobi County in the Republic of Kenya.
The particulars of the charges were that her being a public officer employed at the REREC, she fraudulently acquired public property amounting to Sh293,457.07 being salary paid to her by REREC after uttering a false academic document namely Diploma in Business Information and Technology which the said public body relied upon to employ her.
Appearing before Chief Magistrate Thomas Nzyoki on Monday, Gachugi denied the charges and requested for release on reasonable bail/bond terms.
He was released by the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court on bond and alternative cash bail of Sh200,000.
Gachugi was arrested and arraigned on Monday by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
EACC said she resigned after three months on the job when it began investigating her.
The anti-corruption body is hoping to recover the total salaries she earned and return them to the government.
The matter will be mentioned on March 25, for pretrial directions.
