The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) has opened an office in Bungoma to serve the Western region.

The regional office will serve Busia, Kakamega and Vihiga Counties.

In her address during the launch of the office on Tuesday, the registrar of the political parties Dr. Anne Nderitu said they are committed to bringing services closer to the people.

Nderitu said that Bungoma is the 12th County to get a new office.

"The main objective of this expansion is to address the confusion surrounding political party registrations," she said.

"The opening of new offices aims to decentralize services so that every resident can access information about their political parties."

Nderitu affirmed that the move aims to clarify the process of political parties' registration.

She commended the political leaders in the region for their contributions to the country.

“The launch of the Bungoma branch of the ORPP signifies a step towards improved governance, political accountability, and transparency in the region. The collaboration between political leaders and the ORPP is crucial for ensuring smooth and efficient political processes, ultimately benefiting the citizens of Bungoma and surrounding areas,” the registrar stated.

"We are prepared to collaborate and receive feedback on how to best serve the citizens of Bungoma and the region," she said.

The Registrar emphasized the importance of resolving disputes within party structures and promoting political tolerance.

She expressed readiness to collaborate with county assemblies in training all members of the County Assembly.

"This collaboration will help create a critical mass of politicians, including equipping nominated members to run for elective positions," she said.

The Registrar also highlighted ORPP's focus on shaping and supporting the youth in political parties, preparing them for future political leadership.

Bungoma County leaders led by deputy governor Jenipher Mbatiany welcomed the opening of the Office.

Mbatiany echoed Nderitu's sentiments, urging political leaders to embrace tolerance for the county's security.

The DG stressed the need for unity among politicians, regardless of their affiliations, to eliminate political incitement and chaos.

Mbatiany expressed gratitude to the ORPP for selecting Bungoma County to host their regional offices.

Mbatiany highlighted the benefits of devolution, stating that hosting the ORPP office will bring services closer to the people, improve information flow, and save residents the cost of travelling to Nairobi for consultations.

Bungoma Deputy Speaker Stephen Wamalwa stressed the need for a workable legal framework that addresses the matter of nominations in political parties at the grassroots level adding that the framework will ensure transparency, fairness, and participation in the nomination processes.

Also present were Bungoma regional ORPP coordinator William Sigei, and Bungoma County assembly deputy speaker Stephen Wamalwa among others.
