Water access will easily be accessed by residents in Isiolo after Governor Abdi Hassan on Friday unveiled three Water Projects.

The projects stationed in Akadeli, Daaba juu and Kakili in Ngaremara ward aim to improve access to clean water for domestic.

These projects include a solar-powered system at Kakili, Akadeli and Daaba Juu in Ngaremara ward.

They were unveiled as the county marked  World Water Day at Daaba.

The County seeks to drill seven new boreholes, equip them and construct ten storage tanks in this financial year.

Addressing the public, Governor Guyo assured that his administration will construct more boreholes and a dam to improve access to clean and safe water both for domestic and farming.

"Akadeli and this part of the region now have the opportunity to access clean and safe water for the first time since independence, " he said.

He lashed out at some leaders for politicking at the expense of development.

"It's unfortunate, Isiolo missed out in the issuance of title deeds during the last regime just because of selfish politicians who politicise everything, I will not be blackmailed," said the Governor.

The County government had drilled boreholes at Kiwanja, LMD, Malkagalla, Lakole (in Merti) and Dadachabasa. They are being equipped in this financial year.

The Guyo-led administration has also successfully disbursed Sh19,700,000 as county contribution towards the Sustainable Management and Access to Water and Sanitation in the Arid and Semi-Arid Lands Programme (SWASAP) project that is earmarked to benefit Charri, Garbatulla and Sericho wards.

The county also has plans to rehabilitate and operationalise the Ndungu Zanguni Ewaso turbine pipeline system water project and repair 800,000-litre storage tanks in Oldonyiro town.

Also, the administration rehabilitated 27 boreholes through the replacement of motors, pumps, controllers, draw pipes, faulty cables and other electromechanical equipment.

Three (3) new Generators were also procured and supplied to boreholes that include Boji and Merti.

In addition to that, Isiolo County is planning to construct a Sh30.9 billion dam to address water challenges in the county.

The dam dubbed 'Crocodile jaw', will provide a permanent solution to the problem.

He said the dam is projected to hold a water capacity of 315 million cubic metres.

Guyo said approximately 8,000 jobs will be created both directly and indirectly by the project.

He said over 85 percent of the workforce required for the construction of the dam project will be sourced from the local community.

"The project when completed will be a lifesaver. Isiolo is quickly transitioning into an economic hub and the Crocodile Jaw Dam is one of the super mega projects," Guyo said.

Isiolo county has been facing water scarcity issues that have affected both human beings and animals.

A plan to construct a mega dam near Ewaso Ng’iro River by the National Water Conservation did not happen.

The Crocodile Jaw Dam will increase the daily water supply for both domestic and industrial use by 58,473 cubic meters and 46,656 cubic meters for irrigation.
