Popular DJ among four arrested following cop's death

A popular Kenyan DJ is among four suspects who have been arrested following the fatal assault of a police officer in Kikuyu area, Kiambu County.

Police said some of the DJ’s handlers who assaulted Inspector Felix Kelian Kentos on March 16, 2024, are also in custody.

Also being questioned are three police officers who attended the scene.

The officer was based at the Kabete Directorate of Criminal Investigation office.

The four were detained by detectives from the Kabete Police Station who are handling investigations.

Police said the DJ was picked up on Friday alongside his bouncer, driver and photographer after they allegedly attacked and seriously assaulted Kelian in a road rage.

Boda boda riders who were present during the incident are also being sought, police said.

The assault happened after the officer was involved in a non-injury traffic accident at around 4am within Kikuyu market.

Kelian did not identify himself as an officer during the rage.

Traffic police attended the scene minutes later. 

The officer died on Friday while receiving treatment at the Nairobi West Hospital.

He had been admitted and was undergoing treatment for abdominal pain and other injuries sustained after the alleged beating.

The body was moved to the Umash Funeral Home as investigations on the matter continue.

News of the officer's death shocked many of his colleagues some of who visited the funeral home on Saturday.

Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said they are investigating the matter.
