Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Wednesday officially opened the Talanta Motorsport Academy at the Kenya Academy of Sports at Kasarani Stadium, Nairobi.
The DP said that the country is endowed with sporting talent in various disciplines adding that the government is keen on tapping the talent.
"The Talanta Motorsport Academy, to be housed at the Kenya Academy of Sports, captures President William Ruto's administration's sole endeavour to refine talented individuals and make them extra competitive globally," he said.
The DP said that young rally drivers will benefit from the best counsel, knowledge and guidance through the Academy to conquer the World Rally Championships.
"As the 71st Safari Rally Edition kicks off, we look ahead to the best World Rally Championship especially now that it is being held during the traditional Easter Season," he said.
Leaders present were Sports CS Ababu Namwamba, Sports Principal Secretary Peter Tum, MPs Dan Wanyama, (Chairman of National Assembly Sports Committee, Webuye West), Bishop Jackson Kosgey (Nominated), Richard Yegon (Bomet East).
Kenya Motorsport Federation Chairperson Maina Muturi, FIA vice President Rodrigo Rocha, veteran rally drivers Patrick Njiru, Asad Anwar representatives of WRC and FIA among others.
