A multi-agency security team has arrested a wanted terror suspect believed to have played a role in the brutal killings of a police officer and a chief in Lamu County.
The three murder incidents happened in December 2019.;
"The suspect was flushed out of a Malindi-bound bus in a Sunday afternoon operation by Anti-Terrorism Police augmented by their Special Operations Group (SOG) counterparts at the Sambaki Bridge roadblock while travelling from Lamu," DCI Boss Mohamed Amin said.
The DCI boss added that the suspect and his accomplice went into hiding in Boni Forest after the brutal killings.
An operation to weed them out of Boni Forest saw them disappear to a neighbouring country.
Three individuals believed to be members of the gang were arrested on April 2023, while on their way back into the country.
"They were intercepted and arrested along the Isiolo-Moyale highway heading to Somalia. They were charged at the Kahawa Law Courts and their case is ongoing," Amin said.
Other suspects who have since been identified but are still at large remain on police radar.
A major operation is ongoing in areas affected by terror-related attacks.
This has seen a significant reduction in such incidents.
The border areas of Mandera, Wajir and Garissa too have faced similar attacks which have affected development at large.
This is among other things because of its proximity to the Somalia border.
Kenya postponed the planned reopening of the border due to such attacks.
Somalia has had insecurity issues since 1991.
Al Shabaab terrorists keep attacking different areas and extend the same to Kenya
