ODM to flag off food donations to flood victims on Tuesday

The Orange Democratic Movement Party will on Tuesday, May 14, flag off a consignment of donations to people affected by floods.

A statement issued by the Party on Saturday said the flagging off will be held at Chungwa House at 10 am.

This will be the first consignment of donations under the ODM Disaster Response Committee, which was formed as part of their response to the current national flooding crisis.

"On Tuesday, May 14 at 10 am, we will be flagging off this consignment at Chungwa House," the Party said.

The Party has appealed for donations to help manage the disaster response drive.

"Our major appeal is for packed maize flour, rice, beans, and cooking oil for food items. For non-food items, we request blankets, mattresses, and housing prefabs," it requested.

ODM invited those who can contribute any of the said items to do so at Chungwa House.

A team will be available to receive the well-wishers and their gifts at any time.

"Let us stand with the great people of Kenya during this difficult time," the Party stated.

It also invited members of ODM to attend the Tuesday event.

The ODM disaster response team consists of nine members including Senators Eddy Gicheru (Migori) and Hamida Kibwana (Nominated), MPs Mishi Mboko (Likoni), Catherine Omanyo (Busia County) and James Nyikal (Seme).

Members of the County Assembly of Nairobi Peter Imwatok (Majority leader), Nasra Nanda (Nominated) and Abbas Khalif (South C ward) are part of the committee.

ODM Youth Director Benson Musungu is also a member of the Committee.

The flood crisis has so far affected a total of 56,367 households who have been displaced affecting approximately 281,835 people.

The total number of affected persons is 380,573.

Interior CS Kithure Kindiki on Friday said the government has set up 167 camps across 22 counties hosting 70,451 people.
