Detectives are probing the murder of a 66-year-old woman and her 25-year-old grandson at Bogeka village in Keroka, Nyamira county.
Rebecca Onyinkwa and her grandson Geoffrey Orina were found dead in their home on Thursday morning, May 9, hours after the fatal incident occurred.
Both victims sustained multiple injuries.
Police said they suspect the woman was killed by her grandson.
They were the only people present in the house when the incident is suspected to have happened.
The grandson was later pursued and lynched by a mob moments later within the compound.
The lifeless body of the woman was found in her kitchen beside the fireplace.
The body had visible injuries in the neck suspected to have been inflicted by a sharp object and other burns in the head.
Police, who visited the scene, said they found the body of the grandson about 100 metres from the house.
The officers said the man was pursued in the village and lynched by a mob who accused him of being behind the murder.
The motive remains unknown.
Police have launched a manhunt for the mob.
Police discourage mob lynching and terms it criminal. They want suspects be arrested and surrendered to authorities for processing.
Some residents have deserted the area in fear of being arrested.
The bodies were moved to the mortuary pending postmortem and other processes.
Elsewhere in Mbirikani, Kajiado county, the body of an unidentified man was found in a seasonal river after a suspected murder.
Police believe the man was murdered elsewhere and the body dumped at the scene.
Residents called police to the scene informing them of the discovery of the body, which had visible injuries on the head with blood oozing from the mouth.
The man did not have any identification document at the time of the discovery of the body, police said. The motive is unknown.
The body also had injuries in the neck, hands and legs.
Police moved the body to the mortuary pending postmortem.
