Service provider Safaricom has said the internet disruption affecting customers was a result of an outage in one of the undersea cables which delivers internet traffic in and out of the country.

In a statement on Facebook, the service provider, however, stated that it has since provided other communication paths to minimise service interruption.

The measures in place will also keep its customers connected as they await the full restoration of the cable.

"You may, however, experience reduced internet speeds. We thank you for your patience and understanding," Safaricom stated.

The issue is also facing other service providers including VGG Connect.

Earlier in the day, users of the internet provider received a message notifying them of the same.

"Dear customers, we are currently experiencing slow speeds due to multiple cuts on the undersea cable. Our upstream provider is working to have this resolved. Apologies for the inconvenience," the message read.
