The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority on Tuesday announced the reduction of fuel prices by Sh1 in the May review.

The price of super petrol was reduced by Sh1 per litre, diesel by Sh1.20 per litre and kerosene by Sh1.30 per litre.

In its notice, it listed several towns and their maximum pump prices.

In Nairobi, Epra noted that a litre of super petrol will retail at Sh192.84, with diesel selling at Sh179.18 and kerosene at Sh168.76.

The prices are slightly lower in Mombasa where super petrol will go for Sh189.66, diesel at Sh176.01 and kerosene at 165.69.

Pump prices in Kisumu do not differ much from Nairobi.

Epra stated that fuel at the lakeside town will sell at Sh192.66 for super petrol, Sh179.39 for diesel while kerosene will go for Sh169.01.

In Eldoret, motorists will buy super petrol at Sh192.67, diesel at Sh179.39 and kerosene at Sh169.02.

The fifth town, Nakuru, will retail super petrol at Sh191.90, diesel at Sh178.62 and kerosene at Sh168.26.

Epra said the prices, which will be in effect from May 15 to June 14, 2024, are inclusive of the 16 per cent VAT.

This is in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2020 and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation as per Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020.

It warned against retailing fuel higher than recommended, stating that any person convicted of the offence will be liable to a fine not less than Sh10 million or a term of imprisonment not less than five years, or both.

"Further, the Authority wished to caution petrol station dealers that it is an offence to store or offer for sale adulterated or export-bound petroleum products. The Authority shall not hesitate to revoke licences of petroleum dealers found to have committed such an offence," Epra warned.
